Hello ball fans!

I’m extremely happy and excited to share that Sylvan Lake Minor Ball have been assigned our very first casino. This is a HUGE opportunity for us to earn a very substantial cash injection for our association. We have already started some high level planning around how to spend the funds, including items like new jerseys, equipment, scoreboards and much more.

We have been assigned the Cash Casino in Red Deer for Friday January 13 & Saturday January 14. We have an experienced Casino Advisor hired (as part of AGLC requirements & regulations) who will help us along the way. We are required to cover 5 different positions on both days with 2 separate shifts on each day:

  • Shift 1 – 1pm to 9pm
  • Shift 2 – 830pm to 4am

Positions:

General Manager

  • Ensure volunteers are signed in with name tags on
  • Opens & closes casino with casino staff and Advisor
  • Relief for other volunteers if required
  • No experience necessary

Banker

  • Data entry into computer
  • Transfers money & chips to & from cashier when required
  • Transfer chips to the Chip Runner when requested

The volunteer on the last shift move to the Count Room when done in Cash Cage.

Count Room Staff:

  • Recorder- records money that is counted into a computer
  • Amalgamator –recounts cash using a money counting machine & bundles cash
  • Count Room Supervisor- records money that is counted into a computer
  • GM assists with sorting money & does paperwork at end of night

All positions have some quiet time and lulls; you are encouraged to bring a book, work, tablet/phone, etc. to occupy yourself while you wait to be called into action. Training will be provided for these positions at the casino. The positions are not overly complicated and are all quite easy. While volunteering, you are entitled to a meal, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks at no charge. You are not permitted to gamble or drink alcohol while volunteering.

We need to fill all these positions fairly soon and get our paperwork into AGLC. If you’re interested in volunteering for any of these positions, please email Jen Dixon our SLMBA’s Casino Coordinator at [email protected]. Be sure to let Jen know which position, date and shift that you’re volunteering for. She’ll also need your phone number and email address to start. Positions will be available and assigned on a first come first served basis.

Please keep in mind, this is a huge opportunity for SLMBA, and we appreciate you volunteering for this.

Let Jen ([email protected]) or myself ([email protected]) if you have any questions, concerns or need more info.
